Each 3-hour session explores a different theme, medium or art form, from watercolour, gouache and oil painting to calligraphy, illumination and other creative techniques.
What makes the experience different is the opportunity to work with genuine gemstone and mineral colours, including lapis lazuli, malachite, jasper and other pigments prepared by De Mairo.
No previous art experience is required. Your instructor will guide you step by step, all materials are provided, and you'll leave with your finished artwork and a surprise De Mairo goodie bag.

Canadian Fall Colours
Explore the rich colours of a Canadian autumn while learning fundamental watercolour techniques. Your instructor will guide you step by step through colour mixing, washes, layering, brush control and composition while introducing genuine gemstone colours including lapis lazuli, malachite and jasper.

Paint With Genuine Gemstone Colours
One of the most unusual parts of this experience is the opportunity to work with artist colours prepared from real gemstones and minerals.
Depending on the class, your palette may include colours made from lapis lazuli, malachite, jasper and other natural mineral pigments prepared in the De Mairo studio.
You'll experience their natural character while learning how different pigments behave through washes, layers, brushwork, transparency, opacity and colour mixing.
A historic natural blue prized by artists for centuries and known for its distinctive mineral character.
A naturally occurring green mineral traditionally used as an artist pigment.
Natural mineral colours bringing warm red, yellow and earthy tones to your palette.
Different gemstone and mineral colours can be introduced as the theme and medium of each class changes.

Every session is different. Your instructor will focus on the techniques most relevant to that particular painting, medium or art form.
Everything Is Provided
You don't need to purchase paints, brushes or materials before attending. Everything needed for the class will be prepared for you.

These classes are designed to make creating approachable, enjoyable and interesting — regardless of previous experience.

Our guided art classes rotate throughout the year. One session might explore a Canadian landscape in watercolour, while another may introduce gouache, oil painting, calligraphy, illumination or another traditional art form.
A Relaxed, Guided Creative Session
Meet your instructor, explore the materials and learn about the project you'll be creating.
See the main painting techniques demonstrated before using them yourself.
Work on your own artwork with individual guidance available throughout the session.
Complete your piece, enjoy light refreshments and take your finished artwork home with you.
Before You Join Us
Do I need painting experience?
Not at all. Complete beginners are welcome. The instructor demonstrates the process and guides you step by step.
Do I need to bring art supplies?
No. All materials and studio tools required for your selected class are provided.
Are gemstone paints included?
Yes. Genuine gemstone and mineral colours are part of the De Mairo experience. The specific pigments used may vary depending on the class.
How many people are in each class?
Each session is limited to a maximum of 10 participants so the instructor can provide personal guidance.
How long is the class?
Each guided session is approximately three hours.
What do I take home?
You'll take home the artwork you create during the class along with a surprise De Mairo goodie bag.
Are refreshments provided?
Yes. Light refreshments are included during the class.
