From a young age, I was captivated by the color blue. At just 4 years old, I first encountered the mesmerizing Lapis Lazuli stone. Its deep blue hues and sparkling pyrite traces sparked a lifelong fascination. Over time, I became a dedicated collector, admiring the natural beauty of rocks, though I didn’t yet understand their true value. After completing my education, I channeled my passion into a business, founding De Mairo in Pakistan. We initially specialized in crafting Lapis Lazuli tiles and mosaics for luxury properties, including private homes and hotels. My journey into the world of Lapis Lazuli pigment began in 2004. Fascinated by its use in art history, I dedicated five years to perfecting the extraction of Lazurite, a key mineral. This expertise led to collaborations with global art material companies, enhancing the quality of my pigment.
"For us, it’s about more than just pigment; it’s about enriching the artist’s palette with something truly magical."

In 2014, I relocated to Canada, establishing a small workshop focused on crafting Lapis Lazuli pigment. The onset of the Covid pandemic marked a pivotal moment when I chose to concentrate entirely on refining the pigment, serving artists worldwide. As demand for smaller quantities grew, I began offering Lapis Lazuli pigment in convenient online jars for artists working with watercolors and oil paints.
The unwavering support from the artistic community, including the late Joan Cornish Willies, a respected miniature artist, has inspired me throughout this journey. I’m proud that renowned artists continue to use our pigments, which have become synonymous with exceptional quality and vibrancy.
As a family-owned business, my daughters, Maira and Amina, are now part of the legacy we’ve built. We are committed to providing artists with the perfect blue—ensuring each batch meets the highest standards before reaching our customers. For us, it’s about more than pigment; it’s about enriching the artist’s palette with something truly magical.
My vision is simple: to make this extraordinary pigment accessible to artists worldwide, preserving its legacy for generations to come. I am deeply grateful to all those who have supported me on this journey, and I look forward to bringing this exceptional product to every art store globally.
